An interesting paradox about being "tough on crime" is that it often results in a proliferation of hyper aggressive policing tactics that causes an inflation of recorded "crime". Biden, of course, doesn't see this and will continue to promote violent policing in the liberal lens.
Violent policing in the conservative lens means the encouragement of armed responses to "crime". Violent policing in the liberal lens means the invocation of "reasonable force" to "maintain order" which is what Democratic mayors promote in major cities.
Violent policing is a bipartisan agreement that is reinforced by both parties. The only differences between the two is the language and tactics. Biden isn't much different than Trump in regards to police violence, but he wouldn't rely on federal forces as much.
I'm writing this thread because I know liberals will spread the word that Biden's speech today shows a stark contrast from Trump's rhetoric. While Biden isn't promoting a civil war, he is still supporting a violent police institution and I think that must be rectified.
