1/ #CatholicTwitter: with all this talk on watered down theology/modernism I’m rightfully triggered. I’m going to slightly vent. Those of us that have the background/education in theology—well grounded of course—have a duty to bring clarity. All in charity.
2/ Yes, Twitter priests count. This hits particularly close to home. As a Consecrated Virgin, I’ve witnessed far too many not living their vocation to the fullest. And maybe, just maybe there isn’t bad intent in some cases. Something legitimately got lost along the way.
3/ We all lose direction at some point, and by God’s grace we course-correct—hopefully. But sometimes that doesn’t happen. The consecrated falls into acedia. In closed circles of fellow consecrated virgins I’ve gotten “thrown under the bus” for daring to suggest that one can...
4/... and should strive to live out their vocation radically: Consecrated Virginity in particular. I’ve seen an all too generalized laissez-faire approach to this form of life. The deep theological origins get severely undermined. The profound eschatological realities, equally so
5/ These conversations surrounding my form of life appear to be never-ending. Because of all of this background, is why these handful of Twitter priests strike a particular nerve. This thread is in no way intended to discredit anyone. It’s my sincere experience in church life.
6/ And these experiences influence my approach to many things in the church and my overall discipline. So, to reiterate: whenever we can we should point out error, heresy which can mislead many. The price is simply too high.
7/ We will be judged for the misled souls when we stand idle. Sin of omission, anyone? No this doesn’t mean jump on Twitter in a punching match. I say this literally: because of your love for the Lord, *moderate your choleric side* (!) if you’re a layperson simply ask questions
