In my almost two decades of doing research on users of popular music as a Korean scholar in the U.S., never have I thought I would see a Korean artist take the No.1 on Billboard Hot100, or I would be writing about a Korean artist outside of the context of a cross-cultural study+

or I would be casually talking about a Korean artist to my colleagues without having to explain who they are. This is a very emotional day for me, for other Koreans and Asians, especially for those of us whose fate has led us to live away from our home.+
