Alright what the hell. No one really reads my threads but idc. So a thread on Eremika. How I see it, future possibilities & endgame. Featuring a small section on Jeankasa and why I think its unlikely. #AttackOnTitan #eremika
Let's start with this. No I don't think Eren and Mikasa will ride off into the sunset as it's likely that Eren will die. Also no I do not hate Jeankasa whatsoever. I just feel that making it canon at this point wouldn't work. Sorry fellow EM's. Sorry JK's. Lmao.
A quick backstory. I didn't get into AoT until shortly before S3 part 1 aired. I binged S1/S2Sand started the manga. I didn't really ship eremika to start with since the story seemed based on tragedy but I fell in love with Mikasa from day 1. Seeing EM's interactions were +
quite interesting and I grew to truly enjoy their shared history. EM has always struck me as a story similar to the two part story told by American movies: Terminator 1 & 2. For those unfamiliar, I'll give you a quick overview. T1 & T2 are futuristic dystopian movies centered +
the Connor family and company Skynet. Skynet was basically an artificial intelligence system that becomes sentient in the US and begins a nuclear holocaust. A man named John Connor eventually leads the resistance against them. Skynet, in hopes of stopping the uprising send a +
a cyborg assassin back in time to kill the mother of John. So future John sends a soldier back to protect her. Overtime John's mother and the soldier fall in love and conceive John. Sadly, the soldier is killed protecting her and John's mother Sarah is left with her unborn child+
so as you can see, while the tragic love story is a very small part in the movie, it forms the foundation of the entire premise of the two movies. In many ways, EM really mirrors this in my opinion. While romance has played a very small part of SnK's story, it has had a ripple +
effect on the story. As with T1, if there was no love story then the entire story would never exist. The same can be said about SnK. Eren & Mikasa are so intertwined within the SnK story, that even if you don't ship them, you can see how their interactions have formed SnK as we +
currently know it. Now that's not to say that Armin or anyone else aren't important, far from it. They all have their part to play in the final parts of this story. That's why an ending that let's all their respective arcs wrap up in a nice manner would be the most satisfying to+
me. But that's just me. As for the JK part, yes I believe making it be canon with a timeskip would be awful. This isn't to say that I hate Jeankasa, truly I don't. But it wouldn't have the develop that I'd expect from Yams, as there's only been a handful of JK moments and +
all of them have been one sided. Mikasa truly reminds me of Sarah Connor. In T2, set 10 years after T1, Sarah is shown to still be grieving for the soldier Kyle after he died. This is because Kyle was there for her at her lowest point and the two fell in love after what could +
be considered a traumatic moment (cyborg assassin y'all). Despite 10 years going by, Kyle's actions had such an impact on Sarah that her love didn't allow her to move on right away or if at all. Mikasa truly seems like this in my opinion. This isn't to say Mikasa doesn't deserve+
love (she most definitely does) but her love for Eren is so deep that its difficult for me to believe that she'd want to move on. Eren (like Kyle) came to her in her darkest hour and should their arcs conclude on a more bittersweet point, I feel that Mikasa would be exactly like+
Sarah in the sense that her heart wouldn't want to move on. She would grieve for Eren when no one was around. Sure Jean could be there for her, but Mikasa may never move on from Eren. Their relationship is THAT deep. So in my eyes, I would see Mikasa doing just as Sarah did in +
T2: she'd function' continue living and even have happy moments but at night when no one was around, she'd grieve for the love that her heart could never have, because fate is just cruel like that sometimes. An ending that highlights this would truly cap off one of the most +
tragic love stories ever. Especially if its revealed that Eren did have some sort of feelings for her as potentially hinted at in ch 108, 123 and even ch 130. Whatever the reason for Eren pushing her away, its safe to say it'll add to the tragedy. An ending like some have +
predicted (Eren forsaking Mikasa's feelings in favor of another character) would contradict the story as Mikasa sole purpose would be as a tragic one sided love interest which I don't believe to be true. Why buildup all this interaction between Mikasa and Eren only to forsake it+
for another relationship? Realistically it doesn't make sense. Again, this doesn't diminish the value of other characters in Eren's eyes, he's not choosing Mikasa above all else, but she does have a large part of this story. So where can this story go? Truly it could go anywhere+
my prediction would be that Yams would highlight EM by confirming feelings but through the tragedy of the story show how it wasn't fated to happen. This could take many forms but at the core, it should still highlight the interactions of Mikasa & Eren. But that just my take.
Stan Mikasa y'all.
I will add to this as I get this question a lot. If Historia's baby isn't Eren's then wtf is her purpose? Personally, I think Historia & her child's role is more symbolic than anything. By Historia having a child but of her own free will (somewhat) she becomes a parallel to Ymir+
but her role is reversed instead of being a figure head forced to concieve children like Ymir, Historia will be free to raise her child as she sees fit. In this scenario, it literally could be ANYONE as the father as the father doesn't matter. The child would be the first born +
in a world freed from the titans and oppression (hopefully). So the child really doesn't matter either. It's simply important because it exists. Plus Historia would be able to rule as a true queen and help strengthen Eldia and maintain peace. So Historia becomes vital to the +
future of Eldia while Mikasa is vital to Eren and the ending of his respective arc. Both important. Both have stellar arcs. Both play a large part in Eren's story but in a different manner.
My ideal ending is really a conglomerate of theories that IMO would hit the high points of the story but still maintain the dark tragic feeling that SnK has always had. But THAT is a conversation for another time.
Anyway since no one really reads my threads: read Berserk. Read AoT.
