/2 Appreciating Métis oral traditions necessitates understanding Métis languages, the storyteller, and the narrative of the story itself. Métis storytellers can be anyone in the Métis community, even children, but are often older community members.

/3 Métis stories are not exclusive to Michif, and are best experienced and understood in the Métis language they originate in; a story was told in Cree may lose its essence when translated to English, Michif, or French.

/4 Using Cree, French and/or Michif languages to tell a story allows listeners to experience the language and perceive what aspects of the story the Métis storyteller emphasizes.
