One day I want to talk about how many schools/educators conflate “gifted” and the typical result of consistent early educational exposure.
Is the child gifted, or did the parents/adults in their lives make sure they had quality educational experiences earlier in life?
The gifted and talented program is built on inequity and “othering.”
The fact that children with IEPs are traditionally excluded from being participants in the gifted and talented program is really all evidence you needed, but you can also look at it by race/ethnicity *and* socioeconomic status if you really need convincing. 🙂
I gotta get back to work, but I encourage you to take very very deep look at America’s gifted and talented programs. 🙂
