Having read lot of tweets recently on halting delivery services in Kathmandu, here's a thread on what I think on takeouts, food deliveries and groceries during this pandemic
So, how safe is to do all of those things as the virus spreads? Both takeouts and delivery are lower in risk than eating out, as you tend not to be around others for long periods of time. Delivery, is slightly safer because of "contactless delivery"
You can choose to pay in advance, electronically to keep both you and the delivery person safe. Also, packaging has a low risk but you can still wipe with disinfectants. Of course, wash your hands. The risk lies on interacting with people, not the type of food.
But having said all this, and jugding the current situation in Kathmandu, non-essential delivery companies really shouldn't push it by risking people. We understand it's your business and please do not play entrepreneur card at times like these.
We've all been staying home, market's shut, people have lost jobs and the ones who still have it have had salary cuts. You're not alone going through this. You've done great for all of us when situation was normal.
I absolutely get it when you're not permitted to do certain things because of the laws but this is a strict order for us to put home to flatten the curve. Except for essentials - please check your privilege before you say Cake, restaurant food is one for you.
Yes, we shouldn't be worried about transmission through food but have you communicated to us that absolutely everything has been taken care of?
Is there any assurance from your end? NO. We've just read we're delivering to you.
Are you doing contactless delivery? Not yet. Are ALL your transactions paid online - I don't think so. We know how contact tracing has been a headache for health workers, be it supermarkets/ local stores or delivery options.
Will you take extra care of your workers, yourself and us by keeping everyone informed if something goes wrong? No assurance here too. I'm sure your services are working on best practices, but for once start being VOCAL about it.
Use your social media for that, as a delivery service, as frontliners, as company - make us feel safe. You've failed to do so. If you're NOT an essential company, it's a request to stop operating and follow government rules for once for everyone's safety.
Yes, our laws may not have been in favour for you'll but use your common sense. You're just operating in Kathmandu, not across Nepal. That's the bitter truth. Let the essentials ones deliver and cooperate/collaborate if you can.
Most of us are literally living minimalistic lifestyle because we're absolutely scared to even step out to local stores. Work on your delivery process, communicate right things to us.
You've been asked to stay put and god forbid, you become a "super spreader" - Are you going to take the responsibility then? It's always two way street and this time around, buckle up and listen to your government and get permission only if you have to.
Keep your stubborn attitude and ego aside and THINK about how many people you might be putting at risk. Start COMMUNICATING from your official handles and not crib on how you'll were arrested. We'll let it go once, mistake are made ONCE.
And for those, who are ordering online, please make sure you're asking all the questions to them and be concerned for the safety of the people who deliver. Make sure at minimum they're wearing masks and gloves. The risk isn't the food, it's the people who handles the food.
