A parent in an autism group asked, "Do you think the reason why a lot of Autistic children have speech delay is because Telepathy is more natural to them?"
Some of the other parents answered, "Absolutely! Telepathy is 100% natural to them."

Don't call it a "speech delay". (Some autistic people DO have a speech delay, but for most nonspeaking autistics, it is NOT A DELAY.)
Ask "THEM" why they don't speak. Don't assume. There are MANY nonspeaking autists who can give you answers IN WORDS. (If your telepathic ability to receive their thought transmissions was so great, you wouldn't have given this Wrong Answer.)
Dive into this thread. There are about a hundred posts and videos and whatnot from nonspeaking autistic people explaining their struggles and what helps them, as well as what matters to them. https://twitter.com/ekverstania/status/1101777600903610370
There are many nonverbal ways of communicating, and there are some autistic people who are mystics. But you can't easily beam a message like "Please don't increase my dose, I'm at risk of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome" into the head of a doctor, so WORDS MATTER!
