This week, many families in Ontario are going to learn that their child is in a large class while another classroom sits empty down the hall. It's because of the way school funding works - classes are mandated to be as large as they can be. /1
Classes that would should be smaller because some are in online learning won't be. They'll be combined with other classes. We're already hearing early rumours of this happening. Reports of classes combining Grade 3/4/5 all into one room, to meet the max # of students allowed. /2
The only way to stop this from happening is to demand that class sizes be capped, not at the board level, but at the provincial level. We need mandated smaller class sizes from @fordnation & @Sflecce, and we needed it yesterday. /3
Please use your voice to demand smaller class sizes in Ontario, NOW. It's not about politics. It's not about unions. It's about SCIENCE. If we don't get smaller class sizes, there will be a second wave of COVID. /4
All of the work we've done to date will go right out the window. All of that quarantining and physical distancing will be for naught. We have to stay the course and continue to keep COVID cases low. Large class sizes will undo everything we've worked for. /5
