Okay, hear me out: I wanna write a Buffy reboot/sequel series where the new slayer is a young trans girl, who has to figure out both that she’s trans and that monsters are real at the same time around 14 when she starts having godawful period cramps at “random”
The Watchers don't even THINK to look for someone male-presenting. So she has to learn everything on her own as she awkwardly transitions. By the time she's a competent slayer, she also passes well enough that the Council asks "wait, who's this girl?"
There are a ton of dualities between being trans and being the "chosen one" that no one has ever played with. Having to keep parts of yourself a secret. Facing impossible tasks alone. Building a chosen family to support you. Being feared b/c people don't understand.
Her enemies could be vampires, sure, but she'll attract vampires with an Agenda first and foremost, like any minority with a measure of power does. TERF vampires. Conservative Watchers who go rogue b/c this "confused child" will destroy their 10,000 year tradition. Chasers.
