When Ravana was on his victory expedition, he went to AshmaNagar which is the residing place of Danav King Bali. He had went their to Challenge Bali and fight with him.

On the Door of his palace, Ravana saw a Divya Purush with very ferocious looks. Even Ravana was terrified to even look at the person. He couldn't directly look at him. He asked to meet King Bali.Divya Purush let him go inside. Keep in mind,he had went to challenge Bali for battle

As Ravana approached Bali, Bali suddenly lifted Ravana and took him in his lap. Then Ravana told Bali, "I have heard that Vishnu has kept you in prison for years. If you want, I can fight with Vishnu and let you free from his custody."

Bali started laughing. He told Ravana," You just met that person on the gates whom you couldn't even look at properly." Do You know who he is? He is himself Lord Vishnu. He guards whole universe.

Many Kings and Demons, Rakshas came and will come who will do mistake to Challenge him. Neither they succeeded in past nor they will. You should also leave your desire to defeat him.

Ravana couldn't even lift a ear ring of that Divya Purush which was kept there.

Though, Shri Hari Vishnu knew that Ravana has to be killed later, so he let him go.

Shri Hari Vishnu was serving Bali as his guard. Such is the relationship of God and his Devotees. It's sad that people today are misusing Bali to Malign Shri Hari Vishnu.
