My son switched from partial virtual/partial in-person classes to 100% virtual classes today. My daughter still goes to the school two days/week but leaves a couple of hours early because she’s taking French at a local university.
None of this is ideal, but they’re making it. We’re making it. So many of our kids will thrive and flourish under any circumstances. So, what can we do to make sure *all* kids thrive and flourish?
Now I’m making this a Black Lives Matter post/thread. Police need to quit brutalizing and murdering Black people. Their actions keep all kids from flourishing.
The GOP keeps talking about how access to education will help all kids. Education education blah blah blah. And their idea of having access to education is wack, by the way. How about quit killing Black kids and adults? And quit being racist.
When the GOP bangs the education drum they’re saying it’s your fault if you don’t try hard enough in school to learn what you need to learn to get ahead in life and flourish and thrive. That’s just not how it works.
There are like a thousand other factors that contribute to flourishing. But convincing themselves it’s 100% about hard work helps them form the narrative they need to protect their own power, influence, and resources.
And there are a thousand factors that form one’s ability to work hard. AND I know so many white people who DON’T work hard. There are so many half-ass white workers out there making so much money. So their narrative isn’t even true for themselves.
When I graduated from college, I was most surprised by the laziness of my coworkers. At a healthcare IT company and later at a telecom company.
The lazy ones were always white.
Oh wait. The lazy ones were always white Christians.
