Why Timothy Castagne is a good replacement for Ben Chilwell, A THREAD
Playing in a 3-4-1-2 at Atalanta allows Castagne to surge forward often, and with the high amount of wing play Atalanta utilise, he would easily be able to carry the ball at Leicester, who under Rodgers appeared to adopt a similar system to the Italian side as the season finished
Though Castagne may not naturally be a left sided player, he has appeared on this side of the pitch on numerous occasions, averaging a 7.04 rating when playing as a left sided player.
Through the use of @lgopfelix player rating system, Castagne has an impact score of 118.4, with 100 being an average score. In comparison to Ben Chilwell’s score of 93.9, it is clear to see the improvement he would add to the side
However, Castagne may not be the defensively sound left back Leicester would want if they were to continue playing the 4-1-4-1 formation many fans became accustomed to seeing last season, especially in the early stages during the clubs brilliant form.
If Castagne was to play as a defensive player in a 4, many of the issues with ben Chilwell’s defending that arose last season may appear again.
Castagne would fit well in a back 5, on the left side with Ricardo on the other side, however I believe for Leicester to adopt this formation next season, a quality central defender must come into the club, with the options limited as things stand.
Leicester should also look to invest in a second striker/winger who could partner Vardy up top, with Kelechi Iheanacho seeming to fall out of favour under Rodgers.
Overall, the 24 year old Castagne seems to be an ideal wing back for Leicester, and although he appeared as a sub for Atalanta 10 times, he played over 2000 minutes for the club, with minutes in the champions league, his experience in European competitions can only be positive.
At the price of £18 million, it would seem a good choice for Leicester to make. Though many fans would like to see Tagliafico join the club, the 28 year olds price is just too high for the Leicester board, and Castagne seems like he could develop into a good option for the foxes
