Oh fun. Not entirely true re online sales tax. Traditional stores with national footprints all had to pay eComm tax because they had nexus everywhere. That said, @dofornop is right, many pure plays like Wayfair were advantaged as well. But as the biggest player, https://twitter.com/profgalloway/status/1300206185996521478
Amazon benefited disproportionately. As for extolling its virtues, there are no shortage of hagiographies about Bezos or Amazon. 60 Minutes practically made his seem like Willy Wonka in the drone segment years ago. Too many people have worshipped at the altar of Amazon
for too long. That got many brands into the messes they are now in: you’re damned if you do business with Amazon, you’re damned if you don’t. Is there anyone in business who doesn’t already know innovation and disruption have been big parts of Amazon’s playbook?
Just as important now is understanding the brute force and dirty tricks which are particularly alarming now that Amazon will be a $2t company shortly.
The late HBS professor Bruce Scott said it best: “The freedoms of capitalism are conditional freedoms, established by, legitimated by, and ultimately regulated by government.” Don’t forget that. Libertarians do.
Amazon has taken much from communities, hourly workers, suppliers and even some consumers (ask Heather Oberdorf). It’s time to ask, no, demand, it give something back. Back to you @profgalloway
