Sectarianism & Pakistan
Pakistan is inclusive when it comes to religions &Sects a diverse society with a rich culture. But the social Fabric was greatly disturbed in the 90s due to changing regional dynamics in Middle-East. As a result,we witnessed the peak of (Sunni-Shia).(1/4)
Now again we are witnessing a new wave of extremism which can eventually lead to violence. Even this time it is mostly influenced by external factors. State machinery allowed the recruitment of Pakistanis for the wars in Syria & Iraq. (2/4)
Iran, ISIS & all other parties exploited the sectarian fault lines as it was a war of interests, not a war of Islam. This brought hate, intolerance & violence on the basis of sect.
This new wave is just the tip of the iceberg (3/4)
Apart from the social implications, this is going to have serious security implications for Pakistan. Hundreds of fighter came back home, many are even involved in Terrorist activities.E.g Parachinar Attack, Mufti Taqi Usmani. The state must immediately address these issues. (4/4)
