a) That's not how social distancing works - if you're breathing the same recirculated air as 200 other people, you might as well be sitting in each others laps.
b) Zante has, like, no cases on the island apart from British tourists who bring it with them. https://twitter.com/SkyNews/status/1300379363054149632
The danger in going abroad right now isn't in the destinations, which are generally taking this thing much more seriously than the UK (mostly England tbf) and have been all along, but in boarding a flight with a bunch of potential carriers.
We are the vector, and we're really not understanding what that means. If you get Covid on holiday, you almost certainly got it from another British tourist.
Zante - which never had more than a handful of confirmed cases island-wide - still observes far more stringent lockdown and distancing measures than we ever had in the UK. The British tourists have shown up and are completely failing to follow the same rules.
(Our parents - both 60+, one of whom is immuno-compromised - live there. Everyone is staying the fuck away from the British holidaymakers, but bar and restaurant staff have little choice in the matter and the tourist season sustains them through winter.)
Talking about All This with them is surreal. They're totally disconnected from the British media, so we have to explain that due to the way the virus has(n't) been handled here, we basically have no cultural awareness of the risk and think holidays are magic.
"There's adverts on telly for British Airways advertising European beach holidays."
"WHAT?! Why?! Why would anyone get on a *plane* at the moment?!"
*Helpless shrug*
