I’m getting rid of @facebook! I may not succeed but it’s a plague on this earth and I want no part of it. It doesn’t serve the same purpose it used to for me personally and it’s contributing to the rise of global fascism. Won’t you join me on my journey?

If you hate the new setup, don’t just “get used to it.” Use this chance to break the cycle of mindless clicking or trying to adapt it by using #socialfixer or whatever. It’s an opportunity! Use it!

First: CULL. Do you really need to be friends w/that weird guy you met at a party 5 years ago? Is maintaining that relationship worth the risk of global fascism? No. Nor is a HS rando. Unfriend. This is the 1st step toward reducing the amount of content and stupid on your TL

Second: take it off your phone. Looking at @Facebook is a habit and habits can be broken. /4

Third, leave groups. Is global fascism worth the entertainment value of the stupidest people in the planet arguing over the stupidest things? @facebook is pushing those hard in the redesign for a reason: to pump stupid into your life and get u to engage. Don’t! /5

Fourth: Remove all visual cues from your browser: bookmarks, shortcuts. Clear your search history so typing “F” in to the bar doesn’t auto fill “acebook” /6

Fifth: need a social media hit? Look at one that has not yet built its business model on promoting global fascism. Spend time on @LinkedIn and become repelled by gross self promotion while improving your business. Maybe @Strava! Anything but @Facebook /7

Sixth: stop posting. Maybe not overnight, reduce. If you’re not feeding the beast you’re not getting the dopamine hit that keeps you coming back. No one is seeing your dumb post anyway because @facebook privileges fascism over your Deep Thoughts. /7

Seven: worried about losing contacts? While purging, move your professional contacts to @LinkedIn. Do you really want those people reading your Deep Thoughts anyway? /8

8th: Stop responding to @Facebook messengers. There are dozens of different ways to communicate these days. Choose one that’s fascism free and move the conversation there. Then you won’t lose contact with that very important person /9

Finally don’t be too hard on yourself for backsliding. @Facebook spends a fortune on making sure you come back so it can serve you fascism and make money at the same time. It’s not easy to break free by design! /10

No, finally! Don’t fool yourself that your actions have a mote of influence on @Facebook ‘s model. It IS the internet for huge portions of the global population. We’re all doomed but at least you’ll maintain a shred of dignity during global economic and political collapse END
