The situation doesn’t change if someone from the current squad is sold: if for example Costa is sold, he can’t be replaced by another non-EU citizen player.
Juve could however freely register non-EU citizens already registered by other Italian teams (example Dzeko). In the past, some teams circumvented the norm letting another team buying the non-EU player who is then loaned out (example Mutu / Livorno / Juve)
