This is exactly why I'm not openly out as asexual with most people. People are fine with agreeing to a degree if you're not interested in relationships because of your lack of attraction but as soon as asexual is mentioned, too many take offence to it. https://twitter.com/hobis_pouch/status/1300122122728083457
I've seen this happen constantly, both here on twitter and publicly. Too many people can't seem to accept that aspec identifying people can be perfectly content without a relationship or with a relationship that looks different than theirs.
Far too often it comes down to comments like "you're not different from cishets", "you'll find someone some day that'll change your mind", "you should see a doctor/therapist" which ironically is almost always comes along with "you don't face any harassment/discrimination".
This is exactly why @asexuality needs to verified. Too many don't take our community and identity seriously because they don't understand it and don't know what resources to even reach out to learn about asexuality.

Yet @TwitterOpen @verified do nothing to support our community.
Too often the aspec community has had tags of #VerifyAVEN to no avail and Twitter has the gall to post videos with aspec rep addressing the lack of understanding of our community and not follow through with showing support for us by verifying our largest resource on asexuality.
Anyway, just needed to rant on this again. AVEN deserves so much respect for what they do for our community both on their site and on social media. Without them, many would still be unsure of their identity and not know that there were others like them across the globe.
There's been some progress at least with @/theyasminbenoit being verified recently which is great for the community given the amazing work she's done for us as far as representation and showing everyone how much we all vary in our aspec experiences.
There's still a way to go before we're better understood as a community by most people. I understand it's a difficult thing to grasp, heck I struggled understanding it the first time I came across the term, but it's exactly why it needs to be brought up more often and taught.
