I’ve been working on this over a month!
I would be grateful if you appreciate my work and RT

Enjoy 🔥
It’s a part 3/4, here you can find part one & two with season 2019/20 TOP 10 & HOF managers comparison, their habits & tricks. If you haven't read it yet, I encourage you to do it before you read this part 🙂 https://twitter.com/analyst_fpl/status/1298625667081412610?s=20

*each time I refer to “TOP 10 managers” or “HOF managers” I refer to the above analysis
This is how the comparison looks like, to provide you the best readability here you can open it in a google spreadsheet:

So, this analysis covers a selection of 22 FPL "Twitter famous" managers
Let’s start with who they are, what’s their FPL experience:

7,2 – it’s number of seasons they played on avg.
Three of them are addicts from the very beginning (14 seasons!)

@Fpl_takethehit
@drbenmcnair
@MattMartyniak
But we have also 3 debutants:

@Bakkelicious
@Fpl_Elite
@ArrowFPL

guys, was this really your 1st FPL season? 😉
259 058 – is their avg. historical rank

@Bakkelicious has of course best historical avg. rank (1 season & finished 25th) but among managers with a longer history @FPLPriceChanges leads (21 234). Here are other managers with a very good historical avg. rank:
@drbenmcnair (22 144)
@FPL_Zlatan (33 522)
@_FPLtips (36 641)
@MattMartyniak (54 993)

The most impressive history has @drbenmcnair he finished all 14 seasons inside of top 100k, 6 of them inside of 10k. That's impressive! 🤯👏
A very good history have also (accounts with 1 season are not included here):

@lateriser12 (5/11 TOP 10 finishes)
@FPLPriceChanges (4/7)
@_FPLtips (3/7)
POINTS

63,47 – avg. points per GW
(very good result tbf: TOP 10 – 67,25 / HOF – 61,52)

@lateriser12 (best with 67,32)
avg. they scored 32 times above the GW avg. & 6 times below
@MatchoftheDave was 36 times above GW avg. (best)
@DayvyFPL had the ‘highest GW score’ (135)
Twitter managers GW’s points range:

61-70 points range is second most often (23,6%)
51-60 points range is most often (20,5%)
41-50 points range is third most often (16,5%)
59,9% of their GW results was between 51-80 pts. which is very close to TOP 10 managers result (62,3%) & HOF (60,3%)
Quite good looks how often they scored above 81 pts. (15,6%) which is better than HOF (12,8%) bust obviously worse than TOP 10 (20%). 24,5% represents 50 or below GW points.
The award for best avg. GW rank (1 383 342) goes to @MatchoftheDave (impressive, 63% points between 61-80 pts. 👏)

Btw. I just noticed that @Fpl_Elite was 13th after GW18, didn’t know that 👏
TRANSFERS APPROACH

40,5 – avg. number of transfers made
7,8 – avg. number of HITS taken
31 – avg. HITs total cost

Take a look on the chart
🚨 It’s the most transfers & HITs taken among TOP & HOF managers. It shows that the influence of Twitter is big, and we are a bit psychologically influenced by the others here... it's almost twice HITs (7,8) taken than top 10 managers (4,5) ⚠️
Less HITs taken (1)
@Bakkelicious & @MatchoftheDave
Most HITs taken (25)
@FPLBhuna (king of HITS injections 💉)

But there are 4 managers with 10 HITs or more including:
@lateriser12 (14)
@j98sienkiewicz (11)
@Fpl_takethehit (13) (proper nick)
@FPLPriceChanges (15)
Number of transfers in a single GW:

again these data (very similar to TOP & HOF managers), show that the theory about saving 2FT might be wrong:

Top 10 / HOF / Twitter

FT saved: 31,1% / 33,7% / 29,5%
1T: 43% / 34,2% / 37,6%
2T: 23% / 26,5% / 27,5%
3T: 2,5% / 5% / 5%
@MatchoftheDave saved a T most times (16)
@Bakkelicious & @Fpl_Elite made a single T most times (19)
@lateriser12 used 2T most times (17)
@FPLPriceChanges did 3T most times (6)
@Fpl_takethehit did once 4 T
@fpl_phenom & @FPLBhuna did once 5 T
What did they do with those transfers?

It’s very similar to top 10 & HOF managers

Top 10 / HOF / Twitter

GK 6,6% / 3,2% / 4,9%
DEF: 24,5% / 23,6% / 21,9%
MDF: 42,1% / 42,3% / 40,3%
FWD: 26,8% / 30,9% / 32,9%

🚨 5 of 22 didn’t change their GK ANY SINGLE TIME!
This is number of transfers made depending on the player position (least/most):

GK: 0-6
DEF: 4-14
MDF: 12-23
FWD: 7-22

As you see the difference is HUGE, there are very different approaches among Twitter managers (but it’s exactly the same among TOP 10 & HOF)
Transfers timing

Most transfers were made on the deadline day (39%), another 27% 1 day before the deadline so I’m sure it was after press conferences. 66% of all transfers Twitter did where made AFTER press conferences with the whole knowledge about medical situation and lineups
Transfers timing comparison:

TOP 10 / HOF / Twitter

On deadline day: 41% / 48% / 39%
1 day before deadline: 20% / 25% / 27%
Earlier: 39% / 28% / 28%

Tbh I'm very surprised. I expected a far less patience among Twitter managers...
I thought that the pressure here will have a bigger impact on 'early transfers'. I'm proud of you guys 😎

The most patience guy is @drbenmcnair (95% transfers on deadline day)
The most impatience guy is @ZhouFPL (64% transfers during ongoing GW)
CAPTAIN

535 – it’s an avg. result of Twitter managers captain season score

@j98sienkiewicz captain scored the most 657 (26,4%)
@FPLPriceChanges captain has been doing the worst (462; 20,3%)
@Fpl_Elite had the the highest percentage of captain's points in total (26,8%) 😉
70,2% of all captain picks were midfielders
29,6% were forwards
a defender was given an armband only 3 times

@FPLFanatix captained his midfielders in 93% cases (most)!
@Bakkelicious did the opposite and captained his forwards in 58% cases
I won’t be going deep into particular captain points ranges; I encourage you take a look on a google sheet. I’ll mention only that in 36% cases they missed on the right captain (score under 7 points), on the other hand in 40% cases they picked the very right guy (score above 15)
FORMATION

Similar to TOP 10 managers, 3-4-3 is most popular

3-4-3 makes up on average 46,9%
3-5-2 makes up on average 24%
4-4-2 makes up on average 14,6%

Sorry that I forgot about 4-3-3 but we can assume that most of the remaining 11,7% refers to 4-3-3 formation
TEAM VALUE

105% of their final TV was built before GW18 (it's not a mistake, some end TV were lower in GW38 than GW18). Similar to top 10&HOF they build their TV in the first part of the season, most of early transfers they did, was then. In general, their avg. TV was low (104,8
1st WILDCARD & CHIPS

A question that is very relevant at the moment. When we should use our 1st Wildcard?

I encourage you to take a look on other chips in google spread sheet.

The avg. GW for a wildcard in 19/20 among Twitter managers was GW8.
So once again I’m surprised. The avg. among Top 10 was GW7, among HOF was GW10. It seems there are a lot talks about an early wildcard, but in the reality everyone wants to keep it as long as possible 😅 only 6 managers played their 1st WC before GW5
Twitter managers season GW1 team template

Interesting fact: Twitter GW1 season 19/20 template included 4 (four!) Bournemouth players: J. King 14/22
C. Wilson 13/22
R. Fraser 11/22
D. Rico 9/22

Bournemouth has been poor and got relegated 😬
