I don’t imagine many people are thinking of flying right now, but if you do @AirEuropa is a carrier to avoid like the plague. Have a read of this thread if you have a mo, and I'd appreciate a retweet or a like if you think this sounds like bad behaviour.
Back in March @aireuropa cancelled me and my sister’s flight back from Cuba three days before we were due to depart, right before the island was completely locked down. They had all our contact details and could easily have messaged us to let us know but just didn’t bother.
Luckily we're both fairly seasoned/cautious travellers and having not been able to find out any information about our flight we swung by the airport a few days early and by the skin of our teeth managed to get one of the last flights off the island.
We go back to the UK having spent a lot of money on alternative flights but we figured we would get the costs back from the airline/insurance even if it took a bit longer than usual because of the scale of flight cancellations.
Four months on, AirEuropa are refusing to acknowledge the flight was cancelled, or tell us whether they’re willing to offer us a refund at all. In effect they've refused to refund the price of our tickets (which they are legally obliged to do within seven days).
In the proccess they've left me (largely self-employed) and my sister (a charity worker) short hundreds of pounds we had to spend getting alternative flights home, and at a time when both of us badly needed this money.
Needless to say I’m using everything at my disposal to make life difficult for them about this, but if this story puts you off ever flying with them, I’d very much appreciate a like or retweet on this thread post. Feel free to share your own horror stories as well.
(The funny thing is so much time has now passed that isn't even about the money, it's about sheer anger that they think they can shirk their legal responsibility, not to mention the fact they left us high and dry in the middle of pandemic.)
