Breaking: on September 2nd, the first REMAP-CAP results will be published 1/9
Does hydrocortison work as a treatment of patients who have #COVID-19 and are severely ill? That is the question that will be answered on September 2nd. 2/9
The first patient was included in REMAP-CAP on March 9th, the results will be published within 6 months. That is incredibly fast! But that’s not all 3/9
REMAP-CAP stopped recruitment to this intervention earlier than planned, because of #RECOVERY results, just like a number of other big trials 4/9
That is the right choice, because this way all patients in the study can immediately receive dexamethasone as ‘standard of care’ and we no longer randomize to this intervention 5/9
We have now analyzed the data collected to that point, to see if hydrocortisone, like dexamethasone, helps in these patients (drugs are very much alike (same “class”), but not identical) 6/9
Apart from REMAP-CAP, several other big trials have done the same: they’ve stopped randomizing the assignment of this intervention and have analyzed the data 7/9
These studies will all publish their separate results as well as a joint meta-analysis, led by the #WHO (that includes also the #RECOVERY data) on September 2nd 8/9
So watch this space: 2 nights to go! 9/9
