I might get cancelled in the future if I ever have a platform but I don’t at the mo so fuck it.

Unpopular opinion but one that I strongly stand by: non-indigenous people using the word ‘savage’ should be held to a similar standard as non-African people using the ‘N’ word. (ctd)
The word ‘savage’ was used by colonisers in a widespread and DEROGATORY manner towards indigenous tribes/people.

Labelling the indigenous people as savage was considered justification for the rape and murder of indigenous women/children/tribespeople.
This justification was founded on a belief that only animals were savage, and therefore, indigenous people were animals who had no rights in any capacity.

‘Savage’ was quite literally an oppressive term that was used to justify the rape of entire cultures by western colonisers.
I do recognise and acknowledge the implications/history of the N word and why only those of African descent should say it. That word is for African people to take the power of.

I agree fully with that sentiment.
I also recognise that indigenous people whose cultures and people were raped/murdered bc they were considered to be akin to animals should be shown some degree of the same courtesy when other people use ‘savage’ as an adjective.
That’s really all I have to say on this subject.
**side note: this is based on my thoughts surrounding the history and oppression of MY culture/people. I am Māori (indigenous people of New Zealand), and what I said in this thread is based on the treatment of my ancestors.
