I know it’s so hard to believe — but cars really do ruin cities. Cities aren’t meant for cars and geometrically they don’t fit. Too many cars causes traffic which causes stress. It’s just a bad combination. We know it’s true bc people move to the suburbs to escape traffic and—
—noise and pollution—caused by cars...! (WTF?) Then suburbanites demand highways into a city + free parking, are furious abt traffic as if by magic the math would work. Meanwhile, frustrated drivers demand wider and wider roads — which every single study in the world says—
-doesn’t work (google “induced demand”.) Then pissed-off drivers demand higher speed limits & now cars are moving at 50-55mph past people’s APTS & HOMES— where their kids can no longer play or bike or walk to a friend’s (all pretty great things in our childhoods.) Freedom-
& being outside.

Right now, we are more open to slowing down —maybe we can really *see* that cars ruin cities, and free buses and bike lanes would be beautiful.
