“It’s not an easy time in our country.. in our culture... to be a white... to be a white male.”

I am wholly disconcerted by this sentiment shared in a church sermon today. Let me tell you why:
What does this even mean? If “easy” is the word of choice, does this only refer to the discomfort of rejection or self examination? Outside OR inside of that span of discomfort, YES, it is EASY to be a white male in this culture and country...
...because being a white male means you are not waking up with the fear that, because of your skin color alone, you might die that day.... let alone face daily discrimination + disparities...I think Jesus would want all white folx to embrace these truths despite feeling rejected.
I urge the church to honestly acknowledge the idol of preserving white comfort while black souls are taken from us daily. Can’t you see it? Can’t you embrace it for our Black brothers and sisters?
We’re in a modern day civil rights movement for BLACK lives.
Not WHITE rejection.
With the wisdom & mercy of God, we CAN lean into God’s grace for all people (& all feelings) while NOT centering feelings of those who hold power that oppresses. Church, we must not only address “white rejection,” but white privilege.
Racism is systemic and in the CHURCH.
