I’ve had folks tell me that, as a Christian, I should “keep my mouth shut” about politics as any speak of plot if’s at all will “ruin [my] witness”. I have always thought this to be an incorrect contention, but Dr. Sproul explains it better than me. (1/4)
“There are a lot of people who believe that the church should never say anything and that Christians should never say anything about what the government does.” (2/4)
“But that ignores the whole history of redemption, all the way up to John the Baptist, where the Old Testament distinguished between the priests and the kings and so on.

The church, historically, has always been given the responsibility of what we call “prophetic criticism.” (3/4)
“It is not that we want the state to be the church, but we do want the state to be the state.

When the state rebels against its God-ordained responsibility, the church not only may but must speak out against it.”

- R.C. Sproul (4/4)
