so i told you guys this story.... https://twitter.com/bomani_jones/status/1263127014451695617
well it seems i’ve officially lived long enough and achieved just enough, as this is what my mama got me for my birthday. you can’t believe how tickled i was unwrapping this.
the same one, in the case she also bought in my face. https://twitter.com/starghill/status/1300210791149268992
dude, calm the f ck down. https://twitter.com/LanceAdelphia/status/1300211722645626882
i am not nigerian. but we lived in nigeria for a year when i was little. mama came back a negotiating machine.

which is to say, a year negotiating in nigeria did more for my mom at the bargaining table than a ph.d in economics. https://twitter.com/jawnlouis/status/1300214306253012993
anyway, i think the moral of the story here is to not let your parents think you forgot about sh t.
i do believe my mom is extra dope -- and not just because she's my mom...she's an extraordinary woman -- but...i mean, y'all ain't read how this story began? there are no heroes in this tale! https://twitter.com/Patty_Tam/status/1300216541204697088
this is a story of a young man and his remarkable perseverance. yet through it all, he never grew bitter.

i was wrong. there *is* a hero of this story. and it is me.
the part of this that's hard for me to convey is my mother is the nicest woman in the world. there was just no way i could ever imagine her making a move like that. it was legitimately shocking. she didn't even care about baseball cards!
but i lived long enough to get that baseball card. i didn't think that would happen.

know what else i didn't think i'd live long enough to see? a black president. and 12 years after *that*, i got that card.
