A few things can be (and are) true, at the same time:
- Portland police are completely out of control
- Ted Wheeler is a failed major
- Trump & the far right need to be defeated
- Political violence can only hurt the left
- A lot of protesters have lost the plot at this point

I am perpetually furious about the state of policing in Portland and in the United States. We need a wholesale overhaul & revisioning of public safety & policing.

And I really struggle to see what the current manifestation of the protests is accomplishing.

Not that anybody on the nightly protest circuit listens to me but honestly, what would the risk be in taking a few days to a week off of demonstrating?

Would it make police accountability less likely? Would it empower fascists?

Because it seems like it might save lives.
