Next year, I think I will finally go for it. My Topics in Music class will be Hip Hop and Country. I’ve avoided the topic for a long time because I didn’t feel equipped to teach it, but I think now I’m ready, and it’s time. /1

We will explore issues of race and class, both in American society and in the music industry. We will see where these genres came from, where they diverged, and how they are now coming back together (and we will guess about how they continue to in the future). /2
