i don't know if i can write about videogames anymore because everything i write ends with how the game industry shouldn't exist
i really want to know: how much beneficial environmental impact would completely stopping the AAA game industry have? just totally shutting it down
no more mining minerals for building new consoles, no more adding to the already high amounts of e-waste, no more high performance/high energy consumption gaming computers, no more streaming, etc. etc. - no AAA games at all
from the bits of of research that have been done on these things separately, putting them together seems like it would be incredibly massive and greatly reduce energy consumption and energy usage, more than I even realized. gaming is much worse than average computer and phone use
it’s hard to argue for shutting down other tech like phones, computers, or the internet in general, but AAA games are completely non-essential
i know people won't like to hear this but: people can get joy and social time and puzzles and emotionally moving stories in a myriad of other ways! but right now making, distributing, and playing AAA games can only exist through destruction of the earth
