NFL roster cut downs are coming - a reminder of new practice squad rules:

1⃣6⃣ total players of which:

6⃣ can have unlimited accrued seasons
4⃣ can have up to 2 accrued seasons
The rest must have 0 accrued seasons, or 1 accrued season with 8 or less active games.

Confused yet?
Accrued Season:

Being on a NFL active roster or Reserve/Injured for 6 games in a season (Reserve/PUP List, Exempt/Comissioner Permission List, and Practice Squad does not count).
The up to 6 players in the unlimited accrued seasons category will earn $12,000 per week, including over the bye week, $204,000 for a full year.

All others will earn $8,400 per week, $142,800 for the year.
Each practice squad player can be elevated to the active roster for 2 games during the regular & post season and automatically revert to the practice squad without being subject to waivers.

A team can elevate 0-2 players per game, bumping the active roster limit to 54 or 55.
Elevated practice squad players will get paid the minimum active salary for the game weeks on the roster based on their number of credited seasons. Their pay reverts back to practice squad salary the following week (unless re-elevated).
If a team wants a practice squad player on the active roster for a third game, they need to follow previous procedures by signing a new active contract. If later released the player would be subject to waivers. If unclaimed the team may choose to re-sign to the practice squad.
All practice squad players are free agents and are allowed to be signed by any team at any time.

However, up to 4 players can be designated “protected” each game week - not bye weeks - and cannot be signed by outside teams.
