tauradonna - a thread on blake belladonna and adam taurus' relationship, its development and why it shouldn't be supported under any circumstances
i'm not getting into adam's life details and motivations - after all, this is about their relationship development and not his political/social acts with the white fang
[ before rwby: shown on dc comics - chapter #4, blake part 1: intoxication ]
blake first meets adam crying in an alley during a white fang meeting talking about three faunus captured for trying to save other faunus from the dust mines (probably sdc's). blake assume they're adam's friends.
that happened one year before she returned to the wf after her parents left. considering they left five years before v1 - when blake was 17 -, blake was 12 when she went back to the wf and 11 when she met adam.
adam's age is unknown, yet arryn and barbara see him in his mid-20s, around 23 years old as of volume 4 (2016)
source:
so if he is 23 in volume 4, where blake's age is estimated to be from 17 to 18 years old, this makes him 5-6 years old than her. blake met adam when she was 11 and she was 16 or 17, which agrees with her saying she met him as a "boy" in the dc comics
when blake goes "back" (after not leaving at all) to the white fang at the age of 12, adam is 17 or 18, and they start working as some kind of duo not much time later, immediately getting along with each other
they fought together until she was 16-17 and left the white fang and went to beacon academy. knowing that, she was around 15 years old in this part of the comic and they're shown with blake trying to touch his face with the mask on when he is 20-21 years old
one year before she leaves the white fang, when she is 16, adam and blake are once again shown in an implied romantic context around saving the world together. right after saying she's not afraid of him (which she also mentions once before), blake says she should have been
6 months before leaving the wf, adam kills a dust mine guard to save blake. in the following moments, they're shown to be romantically involved. blake reassures to adam she's not afraid of him (just like she had done to his mask before)
blake's 16, adam's 21-22
on the night before leaving him (blake's 17 and adam's 22-23), blake approaches adam to talk about his violent practices. adam had been violent since before meeting blake, as shown in his character short, and his and sienna's methods served as the reason why the belladonnas left
still about in character short, adam is shown manipulating and guilt tripping blake into thinking murder was the right thing to do while she valued human lives
adam puts words in her mouth (as expected)
on the night before she left him, adam took pride in the deaths he had caused and not on saving faunus
after blake questions how did that boy she met become this man, adam reveals to have never been who she believed him to be. adam manipulated blake for six years, using their relationship as a way to keep his toy by his side
adam's violence seems to be unstoppable. as she loves him, blake initially refuses to believe it. yet, she quickly makes up her mind and mentions it was never his face or his mask that made him a monster, implying he became who he were through his actions
for the last time, blake says she'll never be afraid of adam - but did she mean it to the adam she knew or to the true adam? well here we go
[ rwby: the show itself ]
blake leaves him after six years of abuse she hadn't properly disclosed yet. on the black trailer, the first thing to be shown is a sentence: "your hopes have become my burden. i will find my own liberation...", refering to adam and his methods on the white fang
as seen on after the fall, blake is still adapting herself to her new reality. on the initiation day party, she is aggressive towards a boy who bullied velvet. blake is in a huge personal conflict, after all
so... let's go for a timeskip for the fall of beacon. adam spends a year focusing on the white fang and his association with cinder's faction. adam feels like he was left alone by the person who promised to stay by his side and didn't fear him, but he saved up his anger
blake's pacifism gets stronger every day she spends at beacon, developing a strong anti-white fang positioning. her character arc on the first volumes is about her regret of being associated with adam and his violence, which may have also motivated him to act
on the fall of beacon, adam goes directly at blake, even calling her "my darling". he isn't over her so-called betrayal yet and wants her to suffer with loss as much as he did, just like he does with deaths and humans. in character actions, so far
in beacon, blake developed fear of the white fang and of adam. blake is finally scared as she promised not to be, and this leads adam to act and take everything she loves. he doesn't hesitate on hurting blake and couldn't care less about hurting her friends, like yang
after that, adam gets closer and shows loyalty to salem's inner circle through his meeting with sienna and hazel. adam then kills sienna and becomes high leader of the white fang, proving that the faunus' wellbeing isn't his priority anymore
as mentioned in his song "lionize", adam mixes his people's priorities with his own, such as destroying enemies - he showed no regrets on ordering the belladonnas to be killed - and focusing on punishment for those who hurt him and the faunus
after the failed white fang attack showed adam had lost support outside the white fang thanks to blake, who he then ordered to be killed. the white fang members who were present in the haven attack were arrested, and adam, who ran away, lost his remaining support
with his political and social causes taken away from him, adam decides to focus on an enemy he could defeat: blake
in his death scene, yang references how he lied to blake on the past years. such references also happen in "nevermore"
even though adam was a pedophile and abuser, blake didn't want to kill him. she stick to her new ideals just like adam had sticked to his, showing they had similar mindsets in opposite sides of the same situation. blake wishes she didn't have to kill adam
after all, she had loved him before, and she believed all lives should be valued
in conclusion: we should all fucking hate this mf. adam had no regrets on manipulating and guilt tripping to a minor whom he had a relationship with when he was an adult already
btw i forgot to put the source to his age but it is the 2016 rtx panel! just leaving it here
i'm NO IDEA of how i forgot about it but these lyrics of nevermore (aka the bridge of the song) also talk about how blake didn't want to kill adam and about how she saw him as a lost version of that boy she had met
