Kidnappers are busy ransacking riverine communities across the Niger River particularly around Koton Karfe. Weeks ago, a whole village was overtaken by then and the villagers fleeing for their lives. Another community 'Ikumo' is said to have received a notification letter too.
Informing the community of their imminent coming. These communities are mostly agrarian with the inhabitants farmers and some fishermen. These bandits have taken control of the forests where they farm and also the strategic waters the communities fish from. Where do they go?
They were first sighted in military camouflage, but now they have sent a letter. Even the means of livelihood that these people have known for hundreds of years is being threatened, where do they run to, who do they call for help and what is the government doing to protect these
harmless people? At the moment, the villagers are faced with abandoning their crops, farms and homes and fleeing for their lives but where do they run to, for how long and where do they hide? Is this the beginning of the end for the low-key ,reasonably cheap and peaceful lives
they have enjoyed?
Who will protect their lives and properties. Who will assure them of safety and normalcy?
