Normally I try to keep it about books and not to rant on Twitter but I’m just too upset. I don’t think people understand the shit Asian American women put up with.
I was running errands when a 6’3” man ran up on me from behind and started asking questions. “Are you Asian? What kind? Were you born here? Are your parents immigrants? What’s your name?” He followed me down the block even though I was trying to walk away.
Do you know how fucking scary that is? They just launched an Asian hate crime task force in NYC and we all know some ppl blame China for Covid. How is ambushing me with these questions not going to come off as threatening?
But more importantly my ethnicity, the way I look, doesn’t mean I owe anyone a second of my time. It’s not a reason to approach me on the street. I’m over being asked to explain “what I am.” And if a woman doesn’t stop to talk to you, DON’T FOLLOW HER. End rant.
