One of the biggest roadblocks to Black and indigenous ppl, disabled ppl and queer ppl getting decent healthcare is healthcare providers' absolute refusal to believe, acknowledge and incorporate financial limitations into their care plans.

The steadfast bias that poor ppl are not as poor as they say they are, or could manage their finances to afford any given treatment suggestion if they "really tried" or somehow have money saved somewhere, or simply the assumption that we're not poor, is a major problem.

This is now the third time I've had a doctor suggest a wildly out of my budget treatment option despite the fact I've clearly stated I don't work and struggle to afford basic necessities. A lightbox to treat delayed sleep phase disorder bcuz it's too hot to get sun? Really?

Like I don't know what makes this Dr think I can just go out and buy a lightbox in a 1 income, 3 person household. Or the rheumatologist that suggested I buy a treadmill when I asked him how I'm supposed to safely exercise in unsafe conditions with a kid and NO MONEY

Disabled ppl waste SO MUCH time, energy and money bulldozing thru every lazy, unreasonable, questionably effective or asinine suggestion Drs have bcuz we know they'll refuse to do better or listen to our suggestions and research, if they listen at all. And then we're noncompliant

Drs label us noncompliant bcuz they assume we're not really poor, we're just not trying hard enough or don't care. This is esp thrown at Black ppl, this steadfast belief in HCPs and the general populace that we're sick bcuz we're lazy, foolish and don't care about ourselves

I see it so often, the assertion that Black ppl wouldn't have healthcare differences if we'd stop eating McDonald's 3 times a day and exercised. Drs believe poor Black folk are just lazy and stupid and uncaring about themselves

Meanwhile Black ppl are out here trying to get their landlords to obey the law and fix (or install) a damn stove, if they even have time to cook bcuz they work 3 jobs and you rat bastards refuse to vote for politicians who will raise the minimum wage.

Disabled ppl, esp disabled Black ppl, have no fucking money to buy healthy food, do you know what food deserts are? Cuz that's another reason Black ppl don't "eat healthier". Where we getting this healthy food from with no grocery store or only shitty ones?

Cooking is a skill that has to be learned, not everyone can cook. Y'all cool with white men (men in general but white men esp) not knowing how to cook and eating take out all the time until they can con a woman into their lives, but not disabled ppl and Black ppl.

I separate out white men in the previous tweet bcuz Black men are more likely to know how to cook. We not getting into the issue of how over policing and the injustice system removes men and money from Black communities and is part of why Black communities can't afford health.

I'm just mad cuz I know at least one of these doctors thinks I'm just a lazy Black fatass cuz they're literally fucking taught that by society and during their fucking medical training bcuz who needs nuance and an understanding of how racism and economics keeps Black ppl sick
