Some Sunday thoughts about the @basem_uk vote on whether to enter into discussions with @FSEM_UK on the formation of a College (and hopefully a Royal College) of Sport and Exercise Medicine @DaneVishnubala @krmarino1 @DocHawkes @LinearProbe @sportsdocrob
THREAD (1/10)
Quick DOI - I'm currently a FSEM Vice-Chair and also a BASEM exec member. I've worked hard in the 3 years I've been on the Facuty Council and BASEM exec to promote good relationships and collaboration between the organisations
The opinions on this thread are my own (2/10)
In essence, BASEM members should ask themselves
1. Do you think a (Royal) College of SEM is a good idea?
and
2. Would that college be stronger if BASEM joined with FSEM in the endeavour? (3/10)
Remember, at this stage @basem_uk members are only being asked to support the exec in entering into discussions with @FSEM_UK , and if those take place, will be given a final say when and if all details are agreed (4/10)
And important to note, The College would be

1. Open to Drs working in Sport, MSK & exercise medicine, not just current members/fellows
2. Truly mutlidisciplinary, including AHP's/exercise pros etc
How it will look is tbc, but SEM Docs truly understand the value of the MDT (5/10)
Positives of a RCSEM (1)

Increased influence - the coming together of @basem_uk and @FSEM_UK would provide a unified voice in promoting our professions as I'll note below (6/10)
Positives of a RCSEM (2)

Will help us promote push Sport and Exercise Medicine within NHS MSK care and promote conservative care of MSK disorders (note the upcoming @FSEM_UK MSK Diploma exam developed in collaboration with the PCRS and MDT colleagues) (7/10)
Positives of a RCSEM (3)

Will help us push the concept of exercise as medicine. @movingmedicine is a triumph, a wonderful educational tool that was developed by @FSEM_UK with support from @basem_uk and other organisations (8/10)
Finally, is it in @basem_uk 's interest to be a partner in the endeavour to form a (Royal) College? I believe it is. Unifiying these wonderful organisations will stengthen us for the future (9/10)
