FLOP ANALYSIS

A girl that able to have a back to back chart topping hits from OOTB and TD. Katy Perry got noticed by people bcs her name's on chart, at the top, and everywhere. 2008 to 2009: IKAG, Hot N Cold, TOF, WUIA was on charts.

After a year of not being on charts...
In 2010, Katy Perry released a new album called Teenage Dream. The image branding was a total different compared to OOTB. She also changed her market. From rockies to kids/teens. And for me, tbh, that was kinda a big shift.

But the shift wasn't bad afterall...
KP once again proved her charm on charts. Giving us a back to back hit singles, from Cali Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework, E.T, and Last Friday Night.

She was indeed a queen for longevity chart topper singles. Staying for 69weeks straight on top is no joke. TD was beyond success
Now for the commentary, we have to admit that Teenage Dream era was a total different from One of the boys, just like what I've said. From sounding, message, and visuals.

OOTB's image was young classic chick, early to mid 20's, liberation, struggle, journey, and maturity.
while TD's image was fun, sweet, and girly. No wonder why it was a hit. Most people wanted to live in a world that is magical, like a fantasy. And that is what the Teenage Dream gave us.

The shift of target market was a big risk but thank God they pulled it off.
2 years after TD,

In 2012, Katy released 2 brand new singles called Part Of Me and Wide Awake which later on ended up being on the same album that resulted to re-releasing the record for the 2ND TIME.

Now the big question is...
Was this a good strategy?
Adding 2 new songs that charted isn't that bad.

But to maintain the popstar image, Katy's team decided to release a documentary film - tribute to the big success of Teenage Dream... and this is the Part Of Me The Movie 3D.
Now... going back to my question earlier... releasing the same album after 2 years, was it a good idea or not?

Regardless, after 3 years of "NO" NEW record to top the chart. In 2013, Katy Perry dropped her third album called PRISM.
If you were to ask me, I missed her during that time and for sure a lot of you do, too.

Before starting the prism era, Katy hinted us with a new vibe for this record.

Heading to another growth, the world of what we know is fun and magical, was then buried.
Yes, it is Katy Perry changing her branding image once again.

The PRISM era was her, as a lot of people used to say, best album right before SMiLE was released.

In this era, we don't know who stayed and who left, who we gained, and who question the game?
PRISM 'shows' got bigger and wider. It reached many worldwide... not mentioning the Superbowl performance.

But little did we know that this is going to be the peak of her career.

The image she built for this era doesn't really affect her career in a negative way...
Katy Perry was still able to stay on charts for 2 no. 1 - Roar and Dark Horse. Proven that Katy have a history of staying long on top, we can also say that PRISM didn't play well on charts bcs of WOA, Unconditionally, Birthday, and TIHWD.

What could possibly be the reason...
that the following singles didn't hit the listeners as it did before? Was it bcs the hype is over? Was it bcs that is not what the people wants to see? Was it bcs of the message of the songs or was it bcs of the Katy Taylor feud?
