So the Mercado I go to is in Aurora. Aka the same place where a theater was shot up by a white dude several years ago and said white dude was arrested alive. More recently, Aurora was the site of Elijah McClain’s murder at the hands of the Aurora PD. His crime? Walking home. https://twitter.com/secretary_snark/status/1299468473882406912
Anyway, Aurora is just a few miles away from me. It has not only the Mercado but a Middle Eastern Market that I love along with an HMart. Despite its current leadership (Mike Coffman is horrible just like the PD), it’s a vibrant and multiethnic city.

Back to it - as I was driving to the mercado, I was pulled up to an intersection where the light was red. Off to the right there was a line of Aurora PD cars for fuck knows why doing fuck knows what. There were ~6 or 7 cops all hanging outside their cars again fuck knows why.
NONE of those assholes had masks on.
Also, they were all white.

I looked over to my left and saw a young black man, wearing a mask, about to cross the intersection and walk towards the line of cop cars.
His head was down but when he reached the intersection, he must have seen the lights flashing in his periphery because his head snapped up and he stopped in his tracks.
He then turned right around and headed back in the direction he just came from.
I hope this young man wasn’t headed to work because chances are, this unplanned detour might have made him late.
All because he’s black in a city that has a history of killing people like him. For no reason.
