Military-tacticool complex.
Gonna come back to that. I really think 9/11 set something off in American psyche, a need to respond and act. I felt it too, that& #39;s why I enlisted as soon as I could.
IGWOT has filled that craving with images of war, amplified by popular media.

2/ Images of a confusing bloody war, just like Vietnam being lost by things we don& #39;t want to understand, and on the other end the operators

And they did, many times. And they still do. But it& #39;s not enough to fix or win GWOT

3/ So it never ends.
Add to that the changing roles and ideas of what is masculine plus social media and you end up with a lot of people looking for a identity. Not lots of positive places to find 1. Why do I matter, why should you respect me?
Quick way to get that, is to serve

4/ So people serve. Get thanked. Lots of them move on, some don& #39;t. Some can& #39;t and need help. Some won& #39;t because it is their identity and the cannot find meaning in the real world. They long to return to combat where things were easier. They joke about it, shoot lots, stay frosty
5/ And they& #39;re not wrong.
It was simpler, they did matter and most of all, they were cool.
And as they relive it, they find an adoring crowd of the posers, embellishers and wannabes who eat it up. Because it gives them identity. I know a guy... Stories become currency of cool

6/ And identity creates its own subcultures. Hell- crossfit, molle everywhere, operator beards, velcro patches... list goes on.
Enter the Military-tacticool complex.
People paying real currency to feel or cool. Because even though it costs

7/ Tacticool has its own norms. You gotta have fitness, have a sling, train like you fight, etc. It& #39;s so similar to the old best dojo arguments.
And it is stratified. And the undisputed top is the operator.
So everyone tries to be operator.
And it& #39;s hard to prove, easy to fake

8/ And they should 100% be the top of the pyramid. They should be upset so many people pose as them and lie.
It& #39;s so rampant, the majority of the SHOT show crowd is beyond poser. But the real operators cannot ignore the role they played to create the system of tactical posturing

9/ Contracting as instructors, once those dried up finding eager customers in the 2A crowd, which now could buy the imagery of war with end of assault weapons ban and expanding market of tactical companies supporting GWOT.
Supply meet demand.
Now they could pay to play soldier

10/ And it& #39;s a lot easier to pose for range photos with kit and an assault rifle than to carry it. Warrior images in a society of warrior imagery.
Some adapted it into their own identity, why is a psychological question I& #39;m not able to answer.
Cool for the masses on their asses

11/ And vets encouraged this and profited off it. Most veteran efforts and businesses freely shared the positive traits from service- quality teamwork, etc. Lots of operators share great knowledge and skills.
But some of them use their platform to peddle BS and hate

END/What does it say about us as society that vets who are still working thru their wars, dreaming of murdering their fellow citizens, and worse encouraging others- are not corrected and assisted by those who accept you fight over there to avoid any of that SHIT ever coming home?
Courage and curiosity to speak about this fostered by these excellent thinkers-

Wow thanks for the responses.
I plan to keep working through thoughts on "tacticool" and how it influences current events and
veterans fighting imaginary enemies before god forbid they find real ones in their neighbors.
Send me your thoughts and stick around!
