THREAD: I had a somewhat inflamed conversation last night, with someone I should 90% agree with on politics. Y’all, I am concerned. This was someone a few years younger than me, who is swearing he has to vote 3rd party for his morals... (1/x)

He claimed that BLM movement was dictating his decision to vote down ballot D, but 3rd party for president. (He is white, BTW, if that matters? ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯) I spent way too much energy trying to convince him that our country isn’t set up for 3rd parties and...(2/x)

By NOT voting for Biden/Harris, he was all but checking the box for Trump. And exactly what happened in 2016, would happen in Nov. This is not someone who is uneducated on the candidates either, he spent a LOT of time citing Harris’ record as CA DA (3/x)...

Which was his issue, he didn’t have much to say about Biden, but more focused on the imperfection of the VEEP. I tried to point out that the VEEP is not POTUS, but his impression is that she will be running g the show. (4/x)

I tried to point out that “anything but Trump” would allow the country to get their shit together and an open field for both parties in 2024. (Mitt, Haley, Cruz ), and the entire D field that we saw in 2020...fair shot for all. It didn’t make a dent. (5/x)

I tried “we need progress, not perfection.” I tried “you’re not marrying the POTUS, you’re hiring them for a temp job,” I plead as someone (& partner) hit by the recession to not allow this to keep happening. (6/x)

The thing is, this person and I should NEVER be arguing about politics unless it was something small, details, we agree on QUITE a few things. But he is voting 3rd party. He asked me if I thought that Biden/Harris would “get kids out of cages” on the border? YES! (7/x)

He asked me if I thought they would move on systemic changes to inequality in the legal system? I said, YES! Harris is so qualified for that! But this is a value issue for him, and her track record as DA does not allow him have that faith. (8/x)

I wish I had a nice resolution to this to tell you, but I don’t. I woke up scared that we really will have trump for another 4 years, because the generation younger than me is demanding perfection over progress, thinks a 3rd party is a possibility in the US, ...(9/x)

And is willing to SIT HOME OR VOTE FOR KANYE (he didn’t say this...but...?), than ensure we dump trump by a landslide. So. We are up against a POTUS who cheats and says he will, Russia and Facebook influencing with subtlety incorrect and biased social media, mail in ballot (10/x)

Reduction and blockage, and a whole demographic who would rather make an unheard statement than ensure democracy isn’t destroyed. HOW DO WE REACH THEM IN 60 DAYS?!? (11/x)

And how, after we (hopefully) dump trump, do we also work to include this demographic in the Democratic Party? We also have party work to do. (FIN)
