2/ The Tories used to be the party of British business and the middle class, and that pushed them in a democratic direction. Now the Tory elite serves only itself and the wishes of its super-rich donors, and neither group has any reason to care for democracy.
3/ So the Tory party is now a fundamentally undemocratic party. It has a powerful vested interest in weakening and undermining democracy. It is a threat to democracy and the opposition must work together to combat that threat.
4/ One of the first things a future non-Tory government must do is to weaken the sway of big money over our politics. Big money political donations must be made serious criminal offences, as should gifts and paid private jobs for MPs.
5/ Such measures will only be the start of a long and unending struggle. Big money will always seek to infiltrate and pervert our politics. The war against that subversion must be taken as seriously as the war against terrorism. Big money threatens democracy's very existence.
