Leeds United made 2 very promising, exciting signings yesterday. What was interesting was how many people were stating Leeds were "doing a Fulham" or "doing a Villa".

I thought I'd have a look (using http://transfermarkt.co.uk ) to see where this "comparison" is coming from #LUFC
Leeds have so far signed 9 players this Summer for a total of approx £63m. Of those 9 players, 3 were already at the club. 4 have been signed for the u23's. Leeds have therefore signed 2 players for the 1st team squad that they didn't have last season
By comparison, in 19/20 season, Villa signed a total of 16 players for £143m. Of those 16, 3 were already at the club. None of the signings were for the u23 squad. The 13 new players were all for the 1st team squad. Those 13 cost approx. £112m
In the 18/19 season, Fulham signed a total of 15 players for £105m. Of those 15, only 1 player was an existing player. None of the players were signed for the u23's. The 14 new players were all signed for the 1st team squad. Those 14 cost approx. £83m.
Leeds 1st signing, Rodrigo, is Spains current number 9, with 22 caps for his country, 6 years playing in La Liga, and has vast CL/EL experience including 2 Europa League finals. Rodrigo cost £27m, which is only £5m more than the following 2 players.
Villas main striker signing, Wesley, cost £22m and had 1 Brazil cap. He hadn't played higher league football than the Belgium top flight. Due to injury, Villa also signed Samatta for £9.5m. Again, Belgium top flight experience. Between them, they went on to score 6 goals in 35.
Fulhams main striker signing was Mitrovic for £22m. The only signing who had played for the club previously. He had Premier League experience, with 10 goals in 40 games over 2 seasons. Also capped by Serbia (20+ positions below Spain in world rankings). Went on to score 11 in 37.
Leeds other new signing, a CB, is Robin Koch, costing £11.7m. Robin has 2 caps for Germany, is in their current squad (and expecting to add to his 2 caps in the upcoming games) and has nearly 100 Bundesliga games under his belt, with his team finishing 8th last season.
Villa signed Mings for £21m (£10m more than Koch). At the time, Mings top flight experience was 17 games in just over 3 seasons for Bournemouth. Villa also signed Konsa. Konsa had never played higher than Championship level. Konsa cost £0.5m more than Koch...
Fulhams top CB signing was Alfie Mawson for £15.2m (nearly £4m more than Koch). Mawson had fewer top flight games experience than Koch, and no international caps/call ups. Mawson was part of a poor Swansea defence in his 2 seasons of top flight experience, resulting in relegation
The difference in transfer policies between Leeds this Summer and Villa in 19/20 and Fulham in 18/19 isn't even comparable.

Leeds aren't rebuilding an entire 1st team squad like they did, they're filling the minimal spaces that need filling.
The level of experience and quality also indicates a different level of players being targeted compared to what Fulham/Villa signed last Summer. We're in no danger of "doing a Villa/Fulham". We're doing our own thing, our own way. As we always do. #LUFC
