COVID offered us an opportunity. It is an opportunity, still with us, to rethink the culture and the society of this life form called the human. We are failing miserably at it. Let’s take work/labour. Our capital driven culture could have been rethought work instead all the
decisions are being driven by it. But the truth is that work/labor is put into crisis by COVID. We had the and still have the opportunity to rethink work but our “leaders”/decision-makers cannot think beyond capital. Their capital-thinking as I like to call it cannot move us
beyond work as the central dynamic of life. We had and still have the opportunity to produce new forms of sociality, forms in which work is among a number of other things that makes life livable but instead our response to this crisis has been to centralized work. All the efforts
of “reopening” have focused on work/labor. And it is work in the pre-COVID era mode. But even capital has survived by adapting what work is in the past. Now I don’t want to save work, but I do want new forms of sociality. Making work central to a post-COVID world, as the thing
that returns us to the “normal” limits new inventions of the social, it further entrenched deadly capital and its ecocidal drive. Work should be the lowest element in the criteria for living with COVID. A new form of sociality, one that cares about and values all life forms
would refuse to organize survival around work/labor as foundational to the planet’s survival.
