Someone smarter than me is going to write an important book about how "magical thinking" came to replace discourses in civil society, and confused almost every political bloc, between 2010 and 2020.
In the end, "magical thinking" strikes me as a great storytelling device, but at the same time became a new political logic that permitted a conservative reactionary project.
Yes I am spitballing this on social media precisely because I'm not sure how strong the project would be...until someone else picks up this thread and makes it empirical.
Responding to a few of the excellent posts in this thread - I’m less interested in the religious right than the pervasiveness of how what is essentially an aesthetic tradition became calculus across political belief systems. But I’m not the one who will write this book.
