Happy birthday to one of the loves of my life, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. I’ll be adding to this thread of Shelley-inspired pulp throughout the day. Starting with...
This recently-acquired nine book series of 1972-73 Frankenstein-inspired groovy gothics from Popular Library. I can’t wait to read them! Thanks @Robert_Essig and @toomuchhorror for introducing me to their existence!
The winning cover is definitely this gorgeous gem from Jeffrey Catherine Jones. I also beg my fellow horror fans to stop misgendering Jones. Seriously—it’s not hard.
I love Mary Shelley but I cannot claim, like this author, to be her reincarnation (alas). Thanks to my colleague in the Gothic Sisterhood @queenofbithynia for introducing me to this wild ride.
A beautiful edition of Frankenstein in Romanian. I got to meet Adriana Calinescu last year and hear her talk about the challenges of translating the text. When she first translated it in the 80s, she had to remove direct references to God.
Another inscribed treasure: Leslie S. Klinger’s New Annotated Frankenstein. If you only get 1 edition of the text (and you ought to get at least 12 but you’re not all me), this is *the* one to get. Having the 1818 & 1831 texts together helped me immensely when I did my exhibition
I found these stuck inside: they are from a machine that the Monroe County Public Library had in 2018 that spat out Frankenquotes when you pushed a button.
Just a few of my books related to Shelley.
