A bit annoyed by the way some fans are reacting to this Thiago transfer saga; which is now fueled by yesterday’s loss (on penalties!?) - for what is a futile reason to argue. Thiago is in his last year of contract and the club’s position is quite clear: we’re not overpaying.
There is one reason to not overpay for what we believe is a far value for a player but it’s a completely different ballgame where we can snap up the same player for free in 6 month’s time.
Usually I wouldn’t buy this argument when the player we need is important for our squad development but we’re at a point of time where pre-season this year was virtually non-existent.
If - and I hope not - but IF we end up in situation where Thiago has an injury in the beginning/middle of the campaign, how are we to justify the €30m price-tag for what could’ve been a free transfer anyway?
The other part to this - one which I cringe on hearing - is the disrespect Gini Wijnaldum has received in this entire “why don’t we sell Gini and get Thiago”
A) It’s not that easy, and
B) I’m astounded by the amount of people who don’t understand what Gini brings to our midfield

Stop blaming Klopp/FSG for not doing their job when the transfer market hasn’t even closed and historically, we have been the best in the transfer market in recent years in terms of finding quality and making it better.
Neither does FSG nor Klopp owe it to you to justify their decision of not paying €30m for a player who is going to bring a certain amount of risk coefficient along with him.
More importantly, we’ve just won the league for the first time in 30 years using a robust, principled methods in the transfer market over the past few years. If it has worked wonders and is indicating to work within certain parameters for Thiago, why change it?
Have faith.
