My creative journey...a thread.🧵
1. I never realised how important creativity was to my mental health until 4 years ago. I gave a talk to colleagues about the importance of creativity yet was not actively creative myself. I had not created anything for years.
2. I spoke from my heart but found I was 'talking the talk' but not 'walking the walk'. I wanted to create but found myself unable to create. I had creators block so to speak.
3. I bought a creative magazine, and Mimi the cat was the first thing I had created in years. She became my creative friend!
4. I found myself hungry for things I could make. I felt guilty for not making things for school, or for a purpose, so found myself stuck again. I visited an art shop and got into painting just for the sake of it.
5. I tried lots and lots of things...making a lot of mess and doing art for arts sake
6. I started teaching full time again last year...and my creativity stopped.
I had no time.
I made no time.
I poured my heart into the most gorgeous class Ive known. I encouraged their creativity and yet didnt allow mine to continue...
7. Then lockdown came. I had time...everyone had time...
I wondered if now was the time to rediscover creative me. I started to make a crosstitch in April for my Dads 80th...I could have it ready by January... (I completed it in June). I still found time for online teaching
8. When that finished I started one for my mum...we both love the seaside. Its a sew by numbers...very therapeutic. I finished this last week.
9. In June I found twitter or maybe twitter found me. I had never been on it before...I was scared...scared of what was out there...scared of voicing anything of worth... I tentitavly started following people...making a comment here and there..people were friendly...I stayed...
10. I watched CPD online...teaching and creative stuff. I found @lisaspidgeon and made some circular weaving...then another...then another...
11. I rediscovered books with the inspiration from lovely people @SlatteryMr @richreadalot @BookSuperhero2 @MrEagletonIan @rshipbshop and bought a reading chair to enjoy them...
12. I discovered @LearnRadioLive📻🎙📡 and made new friends and colleagues @peedleweedle @RachelOrr @IanRockey @russellprue @choccieclare
13. I was asked to help out in the holiday club! I was really nervous! Bubble Monday it was called. https://learnradio.net/bubble-monday-20th-july/
I used my experience of running my creative photography company and photos made by children I had taught.
14. Through the kindness of others on EduTwitter I found my voice, especially with the help of @Toriaclaire, I rediscovered my creativity, I am reaching out to collaborate.
15. So...2020 has actually given me a new '2020 vision'. Its been painful, beautiful and the most unexpected year but I am so glad for the journey. So thank you from my heart to everyone who has brought richness to my life. #gratitude
