Its wildy irritating how thin and small folks in the health and wellness/anti diet area can share the same ideas that fat people have posted about without citing them and just merrily ride off into the sunset with their praise, likes, and retweets.
Do you know what fat people go thru for daring to share those ideas? Have you checked out their comments sections? Have you ever been told someone knows where you live and that theyre going to chop your body up into a thousand pieces and feed you to animals for daring to speak?
Are there entire websites dedicated to tearing you and your fat partner down for daring to be fat & vocal on the internet? Do people leave comments deadnaming and misgendering you for sharing anti diet ideas?
My partner has been a forward thinker in the anti diet/body positive movement for YEARS. Before it was cool. She still goes unrecognized for the work she does. She gets more negative interaction on videos and posts where she talks about this stuff than positive. And that is
because trolls are sharing her work, but yall arent. Why is that? Do you think you can better explain it than a fat person?
Corissa has to spend the entire day moderating comments when she posts a video, providing thoughtful responses to valid critique & monitoring trolls. She has to work thru fatphobic & transphobic trolls to try & protect me, too. She works her ass off and people do learn from it.
We want yall to learn from us & pass along the info but damn, does it hurt when you dont cite us. We need more people to share our work & give us the credit we deserve. We need positive engagement with those posts to further our work, opportunities, and careers. Just as you are.
All it takes is saying something like “I was watching a video from X and it made me think about Y and Z, check it out here.” This makes a huge difference. And its one way you can be a proper ally to fat people who have laid the groundwork for you in this realm.
Fat Black people, fat women, fat trans people, and fat disabled folks are leading this movement. While we continue to benefit from their work we should be at the very least directing people to their platforms.
