Time for a Sunday Morning Science post (is that even a thing?).

Here's what we see in this morning's weather balloon data (sounding). Still expecting a chance of storms with heavy rain potential. As is typically the case, there are pros and cons for rain chances here. #azwx
1. Moisture: There's a lot of moisture in the sounding between 6000 and 16000 feet above the ground. In fact, this is more moisture than about 95% of all other days historically for this time of year. This will help increase rain totals and thunderstorm chances.

2. Instability: This is the temperature of the atmosphere above the ground, and it's supportive for thunderstorms to develop. This isn't the most unstable sounding we've seen this year, but is enough for storms.

3. Warm/dry air aloft: This is the biggest negative in the sounding. This will limit storm intensity somewhat and prevent storms from growing as tall as they can during some of the biggest thunderstorm events.

4. Strong winds aloft: The wind speeds high up in the atmosphere are very strong for this time of year. This means storms will be moving quicker than normal towards the east, and will keep storms longer-lived.
