My grandfather died from colon cancer; three of his siblings had it; each of them had a child with colon cancer, including my uncle, who died young from it. When I was a child, I thought colon cancer was the way people died.
Black Americans have a disproportionate burden of colon cancer, with the highest incidence and mortality rates in the U.S. Thanks to @FredTJoseph for introducing me to @BlueHats4colons, which aims to reduce that disparity. I donated this morning and hope others will join me.
I had the benefit of growing up knowing that I& #39;d start screening early, and did so as soon as I turned 40. Colonoscopy has likely been life-saving for me. This isn& #39;t everyone& #39;s experience - we need to improve the science, awareness, and screening access to benefit all.
